Many of you will not like the default font for the NaturallySpeaking DragonPad. It can be changed. Note that the ProgramData and the Application Data directories are hidden directories if systems are set with default options.
For Release 11, US English on Windows Vista or Windows 7, the file is by default in the directory C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking11\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 11, US English, on Windows-XP the file is by default in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking11\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 10, US English on Windows Vista, the file is by default in the directory C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 10, US English, on Windows-XP the file is by default in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 9.5, US English on Windows Vista, the file is by default in the directory C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking9\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 9, US English, on Windows-XP the file is by default in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking9\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 8, US English, the file is by default in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ScanSoft\NaturallySpeaking8\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Releases 7.2 and 7.3, US English, the file is by default in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ScanSoft\NaturallySpeaking\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
For Release 7.0, US English, the file is by default in the directory C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\NaturallySpeaking\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini
Add lines such as the following to the [Options] section of the file:
enx Default Font=Times New Roman
enx Default Font Size=300
Default Font Size is specified as 20 times the desired font size. The above is taken from a system where I prefer 15 point font as the default so that multiple persons can read the text without squinting. Note there is no space before or after the "=" in these statements, a space will typically result in these lines being ignored.
Use "enx" as shown above for US English.
The replacement is NOT needed in Release 10 or later if you have chosen the US English language model but some other accent.
Dragon, to the best of my knowledge, does not support users making changes in this options.ini file, but has documented this procedure as a Tech Note. Save a copy of the options.ini file before you edit it so that if you have problems you can see if they are related to changes you make in the file prior to calling Tech Support. Make certain that you include this file in your normal backups!
These changes only impact the font in the NaturallySpeaking DragonPad application -- not the font in any other application such as Word, WordPerfect8, etc.
