Many of you will not like the default font for the NaturallySpeaking DragonPad. It can be changed.
On Release 3.0 and earlier releases, changing it wasn't easy -- it involved changing the system registry. Look at Joel's Unofficial NatSpeak Site if interested.
On Release 3.52, it became much easier. The parameters for the font and the font size got moved into a text file associated with each user. The file is, by default, C:\NatSpeak\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini.
Within this text file, you (or your computer guru) can add lines of the general form:
Default Font=Times New Roman
Default Font Size=300
For Release 5, US English, the file is by default in the directory C:\Program Files\Dragon Systems\NaturallySpeaking\Users\<YOUR USER NAME>\current\options.ini. The lines to be added for Release 5 need a leading "enx " with the Professional Edition and possibly late builds of other editions, making them:
enx Default Font=Times New Roman
enx Default Font Size=300
Default Font Size is specified as 20 times the desired font size. The above is taken from a system where I prefer 15 point font as the default so that multiple persons can read the text without squinting.
Dragon, to the best of my knowledge, does not support users making changes in this options.ini file, but for Release 6 it documented this procedure as a Tech Note. Save a copy of the options.ini file before you edit it so that if you have problems you can see if they are related to changes you make in the file prior to calling Tech Support. Make certain that you include this file in your normal backups!
These changes only impact the font in the NaturallySpeaking application -- not the font in any other application such as Word, WordPerfect8, etc.
