DNS 5 with Office-XP

Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking Version 5 with Microsoft Office XP

After installing Microsoft® Office XP, whether you did an upgrade or a new installation, do the following:

1) Copy c:\Program Files\Dragon Systems\NaturallySpeaking\Program\dgnwnlc.dot to c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Startup or to the user-selected Startup location. (To see whether the user has modified the startup location, run Microsoft® Word and choose Tools, Options, File Locations.)

2) Change the macro security in Microsoft Word to Medium. (To do this, choose Tools, Macros, Security… and select Medium.)

3) In the Dragon NaturallySpeaking® options, make sure the Allow Natural Language Commands in Microsoft® Word check box is checked for each user. If this item is grey and cannot be checked, do the following:

1. Shut down Dragon NaturallySpeaking®.

2. Edit the file \Program Files\
DragonSystems\NaturallySpeaking\Users\
<user>\current\options.ini.

3. Find the line that begins enx Categories, which should be in the section beginning with [Options], and add "MS Word Natural Language Commands" to this line. For example:

[Options]

...

enx Categories=General,Indian,SEAsian,Austrln,MS Word Natural Language Commands

If there is no line starting with enx Categories, create one. For example:

[Options]

...

enx Categories=General,MS Word Natural Language Commands

4. Restart Dragon NaturallySpeaking® and look at the options. The check box should be grey and checked. Natural language commands should work.

Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking® with Microsoft® Outlook® 2002

Some Commands ("New Email", "Go to To Field", "Go to CC Field", "Go to BCC Field", "Go to Subject Field", "Go to Body Field", "Go to First Field", "Go to Next Field", "Go to Previous Field", "Go to Last Field") in Microsoft® Outlook® 10 don't work (are treated as dictation).

Note: Natural Language Commands will work properly in Microsoft® Outlook® 2002 if Microsoft® Word is used as the e-mail editor. Also, Select-and-Say® and dictation should work without problems.

Solution: For users of Dragon NaturallySpeaking® Preferred edition or lower, the only workaround for the specific commands is to use the MouseGrid™ functionality and the “press tab key” command to navigate in Outlook® if hands-free use is an issue.

For users of Dragon NaturallySpeaking® Professional Solutions and higher, you will find macro sets below that can be cut and pasted into your Command Wizard. Once installed, they will provide the same basic functionality that you have come to rely on in Microsoft® Outlook®.
