Prior to installing NaturallySpeaking, you should install Word97, Word2000, WordPerfect 8, and/or WordPerfect 2000 if you plan to use them. Install Service Release 2 of Word97, Service Release 1 of Word2000, and/or Service Pack 6 of WordPerfect 8 to bring those software packages up-to-date. Later Service Releases are generally better as they include more corrections.
Follow the installation instructions with the NaturallySpeaking product. If you have an upgrade to Release 5.0, you only need to install the upgrade CD. NaturallySpeaking should preserve your established user files, but it may be advantageous to create new files. We have observed that it generally takes 50-75 corrections to fine-tune user files. Past that you are not likely to see a noticeable difference in accuracy. Since you can usually make 50-75 corrections in a matter of hours of dictation it might make sense to move your custom vocabulary/commands and establish a new user.

Next, if you are planning to dictate into either Word or WordPerfect, you should download the "SR-1" correction to NaturalWord from the Dragon web site. Then apply this correction per the instructions.
Eliminate other unused software from your Windows startup group, particularly if your system may be slightly slow for optimum use. On Windows98 or Windows2000, we suggest use of the Windows MSCONFIG program to do this quickly.
