If you are running Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical 9 or Dragon Medical 10 on a system you will be almost always be OK with Dragon Medical Practice Edition. A dual-core CPU, 2.4GHz or faster (faster the better) is recommended. But Dragon Medical Practice Edition does a good job of adapting to a wide range of processors.
Dragon Medical Practice Edition requires Windows-XP SP-2 or SP-3 (32-bit); Vista SP1 or SP2, 32-bit or 64-bit; or Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit; Windows Server 2003 SP2; or Windows Server 2008 R2. At least 2GB RAM is required on Windows Windows-XP, 2GB RAM on Windows Vista is minimal. 64-bit systems require 4GB RAM. Release 10 or Dragon Medical Practice Edition requires about 200MB more RAM than Release 9.
To use the Remote Desktop Protocol capabilities available in Dragon Medical Practice Edition, you need to either use Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Enterprise, or be running Terminal Services using Windows Server 2008 SP2 or later.
A minimum 1GHz CPU is required for Dragon Medical Practice Edition products. A 1 MB or larger L2 cache is required, that primarily affects the (unusual) buyer who has a system with a CPU made by VIA (very low power, light systems), or a system using an early model Intel Atom CPU.
The SSE2 instruction set is required. What this means is that some systems bought before mid-2006, most commonly AMD systems, may not work. AMD Sempron CPU's are specifically affected. It just won't work! Nuance has a TechNote 6027 in their support section that goes into the detail of this issue and provides information of how to determine if your system is affected. But if your system is 5 years old and you are looking to upgrade to Dragon Medical Practice Edition, we advise you to buy a new computer.
If your computer system does not meet these requirements, it may still be worthwhile buying an upgrade to preserve future upgrade options or to run in a slightly-slower mode.
