Please read our review of Release 12
There are many different upgrades to Dragon NaturallySpeaking. If you wish to upgrade, the first step is to determine your current release and product. Click on the appropriate link below, then the logical upgrades can be identified.
In some cases buying a new product is advised instead of upgrading, in other cases multiple upgrades may be necessary.
Release 12 requires Windows-XP SP-3 (32-bit), Vista SP1 or later, or Windows 7. Upgrades are being released during August and September 2012.
Upgrade purchases include the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Upgrade DVD, a tiny Quick Reference Guide from Nuance, and Nuance's technical support as applicable (usually 1 free problem report). Softnet Systems will assist with installation issues when Remote Internet access is available so that we can observe and participate in the installation and see the problem(s) first-hand. We use a service that costs you nothing to use, just a couple of minutes to set it up when necessary. We provide a web page with supplemental instructions for upgraders.
Legal 9 (or Legal 8) users also have an option to upgrade to Legal 10 if desired, as we still have upgrades to Legal 10 from Legal 8 or 9 in stock. Contact us for details.

Nuance Part A289A-RC7-12.0
Nuance sells upgrades for one or two prior releases for the Premium products. For doctors or others using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, Premium does not support dictation into such systems, you should upgrade to Medical.
This upgrade makes no economic sense because the full-copy Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred is less expensive through many retail outlets than our cost for these upgrades. We have discontinued selling this upgrade.
Release 11 requires Windows-XP SP-3 (32-bit), Vista, or Windows 7.
At least 1GB RAM is normally needed on Windows-XP, 2GB RAM on Windows Vista or Windows 7 32-bit systems is minimal, 4GB on Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows 7 32 or 64-bit systems is required. If buying a new system, get 2GB if Windows XP or 4GB+ for Windows Vista and Windows 7. Release 11 requires about 150MB more RAM than Release 9. Memory upgrades are simple to do on most PC's (Tablet-PC's can be an exception), if you need more RAM I suggest looking at http://www.crucial.com as a top-notch supplier.
A minimum 1GHz CPU is required for any of the Release 11 products. Either a dual-core CPU, 1.6GHz or faster; or a single processor at least 2.4GHz is needed. If buying new, then we suggest a dual-core system running 2GHz or faster. If your computer system does not meet these requirements, it may still be worthwhile buying an upgrade to Pro, Medical, or Legal to preserve future upgrade options or to run in a slightly-slower mode.
The SSE2 instruction set and at least 512KB L2 cache memory is required. What this means in practice is that some systems bought before 2006, most commonly AMD systems, may not work. Don't worry, those systems wouldn't run Release 11 very well anyways! Nuance has a TechNote 6027 that goes into the detail of this issue and provides information of how to determine if your system is affected.
Upgrade purchases include the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Upgrade DVD, a tiny Quick Reference Guide from Nuance, and Nuance's technical support as applicable (usually 1 free problem report).
For those upgrading to Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional or Legal 11, we offer special pricing for upgrades which includes a PDF copy of Scripting for Dragon NaturallySpeaking® 11 (a $49 value). This book provides needed documentation so that you can learn to produce the voice commands that will allow you to better customize your product. Otherwise, you must rely on on-line help files to decipher how to create voice commands that make these products powerful.
